2016 has been a year of some of hip hop's highlights, from Kendrick Lamar's highly critical Grammy performance to the increasingly socially concerned artists creating awareness about events like the Flint water crisis, where the citizens received more help from the hip hop community than any other group. This year has also been a year where a lot of the newer hip hop artists catch the ears of listeners. 5th Dimension is a platform for independent artists to take their art and journey to the next dimension, so starting this April, every month we will select five new artists as our Artists of the Month. Here is our five new artists of April:
1. KR

Based out of LA, Kaahlan Rashad Walker, or KR has been creating music since 2013 with his first project, as well as movement, i$0Lyf3. This 21 year old emcee and songwriter's catalog
boasts of finessed synth production and
reverberating along with masterfully recorded vocals such as "Play My Shit" while on other tracks he shows his lyrical composure on "Mental Thoughts".
His music videos not only provide viewers with elements of comedy, but also another perspective on his music through visual storytelling using sets and locations found all over LA.

2.) Jazz Cartier

Rapper and producer Jazz Cartier is one of the best new underground trap artists from Toronto. Hailing from the 6, Jaye Adams has been releasing his production since 2011 with Losing Elisabeth and Hotel Paranoia this February with crazy snare rolls and base filled tracks like "Dead or Alive" and "Opera". He takes his artistry to another level with his top of the grade video production and directing in his music videos. He's quickly gained a loyal fan base in Toronto and is catching the listeners in the East Coast.

Dead or Alive"
3.) Michael Christmas

Hip hop was born out of the common man's ebbs and flows. 21 year old emcee, Michael Christmas, from Boston brings listeners the everyday rhymes and syllable flows of a common man. Christmas' storytelling involves his life in Roxbury and issues that he faces in a comical light.
Christmas artfully pairs up with great producers and video directors to present the 617 with a new voice:
